We currently are offering western riding lessons. Our curriculum focuses on foundational horsemanship as an artform and a mindset, which can be applied to any discipline.
Mounted lessons require an ASTM-approved riding helmet, riding boots, and long jeans or pants. Closed-toed shoes are required at all times in the barn or pasture. Sweat pants and shorts are not permitted.
We rarely cancel lessons due to weather. The format of the lesson, however, may need to be adjusted for the health and safety of the horses due to extreme hot or cold, air quality, severe weather, etc. If a scheduled riding lesson needs to be virtual due to the weather, you will be contacted at the phone number that you have provided. A rider may request to change their lesson from in-person to virtual within 4 hours of their lesson time if they are uncomfortable. Our barn and indoor arena are not heated.
We require written notice of absence by or before 9am the morning of your lesson. Absences will be marked as "excused" or "unexcused" based on this policy. Three or more unexcused absences may result in dismissal from the program. Make-up sessions are not available.
Lesson fees are due before the first lesson of the series and are non-refundable. We ask that students give notice at least 15 days prior to their last lesson.
At this time, riding lessons may only have two riders at a time. As more horses are added to the program, this may change. Unmounted sessions usually include 4 students.
This answer varies depending on what we are doing in the lesson. Generally speaking, industry standard says that a horse can carry 20% of his weight (250 lbs). Again, this limit is highly dependent on the type of activity that we are doing in the lesson.
Because our curriculum is not solely based on riding skill-level, we do require that everyone begin at the start of the program. All activities and lesson plans can be modified to increase the difficulty and ensure that your horsemanship story continues to progress. Everyone moves through the program at a different pace, especially those students who own their own horse and have greater accessibility to practice between lessons.
We are not accepting off-site students at this time. We are happy to offer virtual coaching or consulting services to help you troubleshoot any issues and/or invite you to try out our lesson horses and apply what you learn to your horse at home.
